Pharisee 101: The Syllabus

Today when we say, “Pharisee,” it usually conjures up all sorts of negative connotations. While those negative associations will mostly be what we cover in this series, I also want you to understand that the Pharisees, of all the religious orders at the time of the resurrection, were the ones who had the most members who ended up following and surrendering their lives to the risen Christ.

From Series: "Pharisee University"

Being a Pharisee, at one time, was a noble endeavor and a high calling, but today when we say, “Pharisee” it usually conjures up all sorts of negative images. In Jesus’ day the Pharisee were loved by the people for their commitment to God and country, but their passion for God caused them to become arrogant and prideful. Pharisee University is our effort to teach you how to be a Pharisee if you want to be one, or hopefully, kill the attitudes in yourself when they arise. Pharisee University stinks (hence the PU); we are doing this series to reinforce to you the idea that it is not just about ancient Pharisees…but also people like you and me who fall into the trap of judging ourselves by our own standard and not God’s.
