Three: Dismemberment Theology - Mark 9:42-50 (What In The World?)

All sin can be an act of commission (committing sin) or omission (seeing what should be done but turning away from our responsibility). These are the paths of sin that Jesus tells us to avoid at any cost. What do we to do? Cut off our hands? Cut off our legs? Pluck out our eyes? Save ourselves the pain and just give up and end it all? Of course not. Jesus is calling us to be aware of the things that can cause us to stumble – the things that can pull us away from God.

From Series: "What In The World"

What in the World is all about those things in the bible that makes us scratch our heads and say, “what in the world?” Like when Jesus says, “Hate your father and mother,” or the Apostle Paul says not to “touch a woman,” it should make us ask, “What in the world is that there for?” During this series we will look at some of Element’s “What in the World” questions while also giving you a chance to fill out some 3X5 cards on Sundays or an online form here, to ask us your own “What in the World” questions. Next summer (2017) we will revisit this series and answer the questions that you ask us on those 3X5 cards. This is all in an effort to help us understand that when we run across things in the bible that are hard, there are still answers and we can trust God as we live on mission with Him in the world.
